Amy here with a Scenic Saturday card full of spring colors. In fact, before I even began stamping, I went to Pinterest and searched ‘spring color palette’ to find my inspiration. I love having resources like that for the times when I need a little extra push to get a card started. This particular palette came from a photo of a lovely flower bouquet in a blue tinted Mason jar and the combo of coral, blush pink, spring greens and tumbled glass had me searching through my collection of Bundle Girls. I quickly landed on the adorable Bundle Girl with Balloons to build my card around.

Since this Bundle Girl has released her balloons up into the sky and the sentiment that comes with her is all about letting things go, I wanted to play up height in this scene and choosing a slimline or mini slimline card base is a great way to do that. I also purposefully stamped the balloons so the highest one is partially cut off at the top of the card, this adds a sense that the sky extends even further up than we can see. Another trick I played with to add the illusion of height was coloring in the tall bank of fluffy clouds off in the distance. I shaded them pretty heavily on the underside to make the bright white edges hint at some strong sunlight shining down on Bundle Girl and her balloons. Her upturned face also leads the eye to the top so all of those various details come together to reinforce the overall theme.

Hello bellas!

Amy here with one last Valentine’s Day card for this Scenic Saturday. My card today features the fun Mochi Donut Girl stamp as she attempts to sneak a delicious chocolate glazed donut from that pile of tempting pastries. I will not lie, I’m pretty sure I chose this particular stamp because I’ve been craving donuts all week, how’s that for inspiration?!

Things really started to come together when I found this great sentiment from the Chocolate Sentiments set. The love reference is just enough to make this card work as a Valentine while still being a bit cheeky with just a hint of snark.  The sentiment also influenced me to color all of the donuts as chocolate glazed (my favorites), though I did add some variety with the inclusion of both chocolate on chocolate and chocolate on vanilla, LOL. For the background I wanted something playful so I Googled ‘donut shop’ and searched through the images that came up. It didn’t take long before a shop logo caught my eye and I used a similar color scheme and pop art style to decorate the wall behind this hungry Mochi Girl. Lucky for me I had a comic dot style stencil in my craft stash that really drove the look I was going for home perfectly. Considering how up close and personal the Mochi Girls are, it made sense to have that background be just as big and bold.

Amy here with another Valentine’s Day card for our Scenic Saturday, though this one goes in a completely different direction than my previous Oddball card. Rather than quirky and a bit tongue-in-cheek, this XO Squidgy is as sweet as can be.

Now, I will admit that I struggle with coloring scenes for characters when they are with over large items, like this squidgy’s giant letters. Unless the character is small, like a fairy, the difference in scale usually leaves me scratching my head on what to color around them. That doesn’t mean I don’t love the image and I certainly still want to create a card with it, I just have to step out of my box and get creative. In this case I found myself reaching for a pattern paper pad to pull my Copic colors from and use on the bottom half of my card. The bubble gum pink dressed XO Squidgy and then I masked her off so I could airbrush this pretty aqua behind her, using a stencil to add the hearts and dots. I used a dainty stitched scallop border die to separate the two panels and glued everything to a white card base that ties back to the large letters that I colored white. The addition to the sentiment was from the same Doodlebug paper pad and the little enamel heart is from Doodlebug as well. So while this card is definitely different than my usual style of card making, I had a lot of fun with it and think that if it was any sweeter it might just give me a toothache… LOL!

Amy here with the first Scenic Saturday card of the new year and since it is the fourteenth I figured why not jump ahead and make a Valentine’s Day card. The ODDBALLS, with their deadpan expressions and slightly edgy attitudes were calling to me and I finally settled on this fabulous LOVE POTION ODDBALL to build a scene around.

First, I stamped her onto the lower left corner of the card front using Memento tuxedo black ink and then added the sentiment that comes with her to the upper right corner. The lyrics from the old Love Potion Number 9 song kept running through my head and I imagined Madame Ruth’s potion room as rather dark and mysterious so I grabbed my Copic markers and colored a frame around the sentiment that it wouldn’t get lost on a dark wall. To embellish the rest of the room I borrowed elements from a couple other stamps in my Stamping Bella stash. First was the crystal ball that is part of the CRYSTAL BALL BUNDLE GIRL stamp. I just wiped the ink off of the Bundle Girl’s hand before stamping, then drew the missing line back in using a Copic multi liner black pen. Next I added some of the smaller bottles from the CURVY GIRL LOVES ESSENTIAL OILS stamp to the shelf I colored onto the wall. Because masking all of these little things into place would have been hard and time consuming, I opted to stamp them all on scratch pieces of card stock, fussy cut and then glue them on at the end. You’ll notice there are eight bottles on the shelf, as I figured it would be funny to see Love Potions one through eight back there. So, while this may not be your typical lovey dovey Valentine, it’s sure to make the right recipient feel the love, LOL!  😉

Amy here with my final Scenic Saturday card for this year and it is one more for Christmas. This time around it was Uptown Girl Eve Under the Mistletoe that caught my attention and sparked some creative inspiration. She’s one of the largest Uptown Girls in my collection so going with a slimline card base seemed the perfect way to showcase Eve.

You can tell Eve is all dolled up for a fancy Christmas party so I chose to give her an elegant pearl white cocktail dress with festive red trimming. In order for that light colored dress to really pop, I would have to do something dark in the background. Now, to be perfectly honest, my crafting time and energy has been a bit limited as we near Christmas. So, where I would normally dive into a fun and detailed background, I instead gave myself permission to take it easy and grab my Copic airbrush system and a stencil instead. My apologies if this black bokeh effect background isn’t as inspiring as usual but I think it is important to share that not every card has to be a “work of art” to be a work of heart. Simple and chic suits Eve just fine, leaving me with a perfectly fun card and plenty of time to get some of the other things crossed off my holiday to-do list. So, if nothing else, be kind to yourself this holiday season and don’t let your crafting become just one more thing adding stress to the hustle and bustle of these days. It’s okay to do some easy-peasy crafting and still have it be very fulfilling.  🙂

Hello bellas!  

Amy here and ’tis the season so of course I have another Christmas themed Scenic Saturday card to share with you. Something about this naughty Yeti Sneaks a Cookie captured my imagination and I just had to give him a home up at the North Pole. Mrs. Claus has made her special batch of chocolate chip cookies to reward all of the little elves for another successful year of toy making. When it came time for the treat all the elves found in Mrs. Claus’ kitchen is a plate covered in crumbs! Unfortunately for Yeti, he’s too big and too covered in more cookie crumbs to go unnoticed as the culprit.  

Because the image stamps the elves and plate out in front of the Yeti I decided to color a tablecloth beneath the plate while creating a wood floor to cover the rest of the space at the bottom of the card. This trick is a simple way to force the perspective and give the characters a bit more separation from each other. Now it looks like the elves are much closer to us, the viewer, than Yeti standing in the doorway. Speaking of that dark doorway, because I knew that the walls would be light colored just like Yeti’s fur, adding the door is a nice way to frame him and have him ‘pop’ within the scene. He is the star of the show after all. 😉

Thank you for all of the love for our beautiful Emily on yesterday’s post. We at Stamping Bella, and Emily’s family and friends all appreciate it so much.

Normally I would have a Marker Geek Monday post for you today. The card was done well before the weekend, but the video is still unedited and I’m not quite ready to do that just yet. Thankfully our amazing AmyBella had a Scenic Saturday post that should have been shared on Saturday, but in true BELLA STYLE, we’re going to share it with you today. Emily would be laughing, I’m sure, because I’m the organised one that would roll my eyes at SCENIC SATURDAY ON SUNDAY. Well, here I am with SCENIC SATURDAY ON MONDAY – laugh it up lady!

Jokes aside, I’m really sad Emily didn’t get to see this one. Because she LOVED Scenic Saturdays, and was always excited to see what Amybella would come up with next. I think we all are, so I will hand you over to Amy.

Amy here with another Christmas themed Scenic Saturday on the Blogabella. This week I was drawn to the darling image of Tiny Townies on Santa’s Lap.

The Christmas season just wouldn’t be the same without this rite of passage playing out at malls and festivals in the weeks leading up to the big day. It certainly isn’t the same experience for every kid who climbs onto or is placed on Santa’s lap. I never had any problems with the big guy myself but I can remember younger siblings and kids in line, breaking out in tears when it was their turn to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas. These two cuties seem to be keeping it together though as they read off their wish list to Santa. To dress up the background and make it look like this visit is part of a larger holiday festival, I masked off Santa and the kiddos before stamping just the decorated tree from the Holiday Owl with a Star set on either side of them. I then masked off the trees and stamped the Christmas Village Backdrop even further in the distance. Now it looks like this annual photo op is taking place in a snowy park square with all of the holiday hustle and bustle taking place just off screen. The sentiment from the Christmas Sentiments set keeps the message of this card positive and happy. So, the next time you want to create some Christmas card magic why not work some stamping magic and layer up your background elements for a fun new twist in your scenery?  😉
