There are a few approaches I like to take to colouring gnome beards, and I thought I would gather them together in a couple of videos. Today I’m sharing three ways to colour beards with Copic markers. Later this week I will be sharing a similar video with coloured pencils.
If gnomes aren’t your thing, this video will still be useful, because the techniques work for any fur or hair texture. The approaches I share are the same ones I use to colour yetis, polar bears, and other animal images, as well as hair and beards on other characters like Father Christmas!
Here’s a look at the end results. There’s a smooshy, dabbing approach, the defined look, and a natural hair texture. I show you how I coloured each, in real time, in the video below. The footage hasn’t been sped up, so you can get a good look at how I work, while listening to me waffle!
