Thursday with Sandiebella: Create an Oddball Witch Trick or Treat Cauldron

When I grow up, I want to be Sandie. She creates all the fab projects I would love to do, but never seem to get around to! Thankfully, she also gives us fantastic step by step instructions, making life so much easier! Her project today is just amazing, perfect for making Halloween special, which this year somehow seems even more important.

Oddball Witch Trick or Treat Cauldron

Supplies:

Black card
Halloween paper
Stitched circle dies
Scoring board and bone folder
Scissors
Adhesive – double sided tape, foam tape/dots, wet glue.
Black ribbon
Bakers Twine

How to:

Cut one piece of black card measuring 11.5″ x 7.5″

Score on the long side at: 1-1/2?, 3? , 4-1/2? , 6?, 7-1/2?, 9 and 10-1/2?

Turn counter clockwise
Score on the short side at: 1/4?, 1/2?, 1?, 1-1/2? and 6-1/2?

With the card in landscape position, cut down to the 1″ scoreline in the 1″ section on the end. From the bottom, cut up to the 1.5″ scoreline. remove everything except the second 1/2″ section.

From the bottom, cut up on all the score lines up to the 1.5″ score line

Roll all the sections over your fingers to curve them, fold on the 6.5″ score line at the bottom of each

Flip over so the inside is facing up and apply double sided tape on the inside of the top 1/2″ section.

Remove the tape liner and fold down the two 1/4″ sections.

Cut each of the score lines at the top, down to the 1″ score line.

To ensure a neat fit, cut a shaving off each side of the 1/2″ tab.

To make the paper layers cut a piece of card 6.75″ x 1.75″. Mark in 1/4″ on each side (on the 1.75″ side) with a pencil – on both ends. Carefully curve the sides going from the1/4″ on one end out to the edge at the middle point, and back into the 1/4″ pencil mark on the other end. repeat on both sides of the card piece. Use this piece as a template for cutting SEVEN of the paper pieces.
Make a heptagon template, each side being 1.5″ long. This makes a 3.25″ heptagon (approx) Use this to make TWO black card heptagons for the bottom of the cauldron.
Apply adhesive on the inside of the 1″ section at the bottom of the first strip.

Adhere to one side of the heptagon.

Continue gluing all the strips around the heptagon sides

Apply some wet glue to the inside of the 1/2″ tab and adhere strip next to it, to the close up the cauldron.

Fold down all on the 1/2″ score line.

To give the top more ‘curl’ fold the top pieces on the 1/4″ score line.

Score the paper layers at 3/8″ on one end. Make a cut in the centre, down to the score line.

Apply wet glue to the back of the 3/8″ section and adhere to the cauldron covering the gaps between the strips.

Curve around and adhere to the bottom. Repeat with all 7 paper pieces.

Adhere the second heptagon to the bottom to secure the strips and give it a finished look.

Cut a piece of black card measuring 1.25″ x 11.5″. Curve over your fingers then make a fold approx 1/2″ from each end.

Adhere the 1/2″ sections to the inside of cauldron top. Set the cauldron aside to work on the image.

Stamp Oddball Witch onto white card.

Cut out using a 3″ circle die.

Colour using your preferred medium.

Cut a 3.5″ black card circle and adhere the image to it.

Apply some foam tape to the back of the black circle, near the bottom.

Tie some black ribbon around the top of the cauldron, under the lip (optional).

Apply some wet glue to one section at the front of the cauldron.

Adhere the image using the wet glue at the top and the foam tape at the bottom.

Stamp the sentiment from Oddball Mummy onto white card. Cut out using a pennant die and mat with a larger pennant. Punch a hole at the top and tie around one side of the handle using black and white bakers twine.

Add some die cut bats for decoration and fill the cauldron with candy.
