Stamp It Saturday: Create a Bold Look with Bright Backgrounds and Uncoloured Images!

Happy Saturday! Time for another Stamp It Saturday post with some inspiration for you. This week I’ve done something a little different from my norm!

What, no colouring?!

Today I’ve got a really simple yet totally effective idea for you.

You know how a brightly coloured image pops off a plain white background? The opposite is the true too! Leaving an outline image uncoloured and filling the space around it with bold colour creates a striking look.

This is perfect for those days when you either don’t feel like colouring, or just need to create something in a hurry.

I used onlyGretchen from the Danielle Donaldson collection to create my card. Seeing her uncoloured against the bright background evokes some emotion in me – how does it make you feel?

Here’s a quick look at how the card came together:

I stamped the image on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink, then heat embossed it using a clear detail embossing powder.

I then stamped the image again on masking paper and cut it out.

With the mask applied over the image, I chose three colours of Distress Oxide ink.

Using mini ink blending tools I applied the ink, starting with Broken China at the top.

If I were a little less lazy, I might have masked the image using a liquid masking fluid, as masking paper has a tendency to lift when you go over it with the blending tool – just be careful with the fiddly areas!

When all the ink was applied (each colour slightly overlaps the next). I grabbed a spray bottle filled with water and spritzed the paper. This is absolutely one of my favourite effects!

Finally I took the sentiment from the set and stamped it using Versafine Onyx Black ink, and like the image heat embossed it with a clear detail powder. I used my MISTI for this to ensure I got the positioning right, and so I could stamp again if the first impression was patchy. You absolutely don’t need the MISTI for this, especially if you’re a better stamper than I am!

I then added some extra spots to the background using a white gel pen for some extra interest.
