It’s scenic Saturday with Amybella!

Www.stampingbella.com rubber stamp used: tiny townie garden girl daffodil card by Amy Young

Hello again!

Amy here and I’m back with a new Scenic Saturday card. You didn’t think I would let March come and go without coloring up the Tiny Townie Garden Girl representing this month, did you? Of course not! Especially when she is as cute and sassy as miss Daffodil here. With spring officially here in all its glory, Garden Girl Daffodil isn’t afraid to strut her stuff, that’s why she is always one of the first flowers to pop up in gardens this time of year. The sentiment is from the Garden Girl Flower Sentiment set and I think it totally captures her joy and confidence.

For her scene I decided to color Daffodil in front of rows and rows of bright, cheery daffodils off in the distance. Sure, there are a few clouds in the sky but the sun is shining and the butterflies are fluttering about. Creating the rows of flowers was done in a very similar way to how I sketch in wood floor boards that run vertical rather than horizontal. You basically choose one fixed point where you want your horizon line to fall and then sketch in all of your lines radiating out from that point. It’s a basic drawing principle called one point perspective. Sure, you can pull out a ruler to help but since I rarely worry about super straight lines and ‘perfection’ in my backgrounds I simply sketched the lines in using a light brown Copic. Next, grab a couple of de-saturated light greens, this means greens with a lot of grey tone to them, like G40 and G21, which makes them appear kind of dingy. Dingy is good in this instance because the more muted colors help make it appear like that part of the scene is further in the distance. Squiggle those colors in between your brown lines a little more than half way down the rows. Next, grab a brighter green, like YG03, and flick in ‘stems’ from the bottom of the rows up to where they meet the duller grey you’ve already added. The brighter color helps bring the front of the flower beds closer to the viewer’s eye. Then all you have to do is grab a bright yellow or two and quickly dot on some color for the tops of the flowers and you are done!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and stay crafty bellas!
