Hello Bellas!

Amy here and are you ready to kick off the first weekend of 2020 with a fun Scenic Saturday card? Even though my winter has been unusually light on the snow so far, I wanted to have a play with the fabulous Curvy Girl Loves to Ski. At least with my Copics I can give her a very white winter so that she can enjoy hitting the slopes. I love that while her ski ensemble is quite stylish she still looks like she would actually be using those skis rather than just relaxing at the lodge. That’s why I chose to deck her out in a lot of warm tones with all that orange. Not only does this make her stand out against the snowy background but it also gives her an energy and sense of activity that I think suits her quite nicely. As for that background, I knew that I wanted to be catching her at the bottom of the slope so I grabbed my phone and Googled “ski slope”. I’m telling you right now, if you want to add backgrounds to your cards and you don’t have a background stamp to get you started, Google is your best friend. I quickly scrolled through the image results and found a reference that not only worked with Curvy Skier but it also captured my imagination with the bright sun flare that it had up in the sky. Using the photo as reference I was able to sketch in the rolling hillside and all of the snow covered trees flanking the run. The forced perspective of the run leading up into the distance in addition to the rays of the sun shining down all help to lead the viewers eye right to the star of the show. To finish the card I grabbed the sentiment that comes with Tiny Townie Sally Rides her Snail because I liked that it made this card an encouraging note that will hopefully be just what someone needs to hear someday.

Well I hope this post has you grabbing your markers and Googling some fun destination to inspire your next scenic card. Stay crafty my friends!

  1. How did you get the google image able to be colored? It’s so perfect for the curvy skier!! It’s bea!!

    1. I think Amy means that she used the image as a reference for colouring her own background, not that she printed the image and coloured it.
