Marker Geek Monday: Painting with Copic Various Ink Refills

It’s time for another Marker Geek Monday post with me – Elaineabella – to get you inspired and colouring this week!  I’ve got a really simple and fun technique to share, which you can apply in lots of different ways. Let’s take a look!

Painting with Copic Various Ink

I would have said water-colouring, but there’s no water involved!

It’s fun to play around with supplies and see what different effects you can get by applying them in different ways. With a paint-brush and some blender solution you can get a little loose and arty with your Copic ink. I thought it would be perfect to show you a very quick and fun way to apply this to card-making with some brand new Stamping Bella stamps.

NOTE: You could absolutely colour an entire image this way, by using smaller brushes to colour the image detail, and a larger brush to create a loose washy background. In fact this is a really nice way to quickly create a background and not have to worry about creating lines/streaks/etc.

Using your usual preferred marker colouring paper, stamp the sentiment in a Copic friendly black ink.

Pop a few drops of each colour and also some of the 0 colourless blender in a palette.

If you don’t have the refills, or a palette, you could also try this technique by applying ink to an acrylic block using your markers, and pick it up with a brush wet with colourless blender (or a water brush filled with colourless blender).

Wet your brush with the colourless blender solution.

Dip your brush into your first colour.

Apply to the paper!

To clean the brush dip it in the colourless blender and wipe on a piece of paper towel or a rag.

Repeat the process with your next colour.

Repeat the process again for the third colour.

I went on to create a coordinating background for my card, using the same technique on a slightly larger scale. This was much quicker than colouring directly on the paper using markers.

I then used one of my favourite techniques to create some interest in the background piece – flicking colourless blender solution using a fan brush! You can see this in action by visiting this post on my own blog: Learn to Create a Night Sky/Galaxy Background using Copic Markers.

So much fun!

The secret to this technique is to keep going until you’re happy! Let the solution evaporate and work its magic, then add more if you still haven’t achieved the desired effect. Create smaller and larger splatters by varying the distance of the brush from the paper.

I popped my pieces on a card, which I think looks quite effective, especially considering how quick and easy it was to make!

Then I made another card just for fun. 😉

On this one I created a brushstroke across the quote for a fun arty look.
