Amy here and for this Scenic Saturday I want to talk about perspective and how it relates to the stamped characters themselves. This past Stamping Bella release saw the addition of three new Oddball sets with a fun farm land theme, Oddball Barn, Hay and Fence set, Oddball Farm Animals set and Oddball Farm Birds set. Holding the Farm Birds next to the Farm Animals you will notice that they aren’t drawn to the same scale. Meaning, if you stamped one of the chickens right beside the cow, they would both be nearly the same size. Now I don’t know about you but I have never seen a giant chicken like that, LOL!

This sizing difference may lead you to believe that you can only use the sets individually but that just isn’t so. With scene building you can stamp each character strategically in order to create a background, mid ground and foreground for them to occupy. For example, we all know that barn is technically the largest object in this scene, it is built to house all of these farm animals but a stamp that big wouldn’t be practical. So this one is sized down in order to appear off in the distance. In general, you want to stamp objects that are the farthest away higher up on your card front. Next, I’ve placed the cow in the middle of the card front, giving me space to color in some grass and a dirt road in between her and the barn. This helps to throw the barn further into the distance. And by stamping the giant chicken into the bottom corner, as if he is popping into frame just to say hello, he no longer appears quite so gigantic. Rather he is simply much closer to us, the viewer, then either the cow or barn. The fence and dirt road between him and ol’ Bessie there creates that illusion of distance we need in order for them all to make sense together in one cohesive scene.

These same principles of perspective can be used with any of the stamps in your stash that may make for a cute scene even if they haven’t been drawn to the same scale. I hope this quick little crash course helps you view the potential in your stamps with new eyes and renewed creativity!
