Hello there!
Are you ready for a new Scenic Saturday post here on the Blogabella? This week I’ve had fun mixing and matching some old with the new on my card, pairing the lovely yet headstrong Oddball Jane Austen with the Bella Cottage from the latest release.
I’m sure that it is no surprise to any of you that I am always especially excited when new background stamps are added to the store. They are always designed to work perfectly with any of the various character collections available at Stamping Bella, which makes them extremely versatile. As soon as I got the Bella Cottage in my hands I knew that it would make for the quintessential country cottage in Oddball Jane Austen’s idyllic world.
I stamped and masked off Jane before stamping the cottage right over top of her at about waist height. When you are trying to create a sense of distance and perspective with your background stamps, the higher up you place them on the card front, the further away from the character they will appear to be. Conversely, the lower you stamp the background image, the closer it will appear to be. So if I had stamped the cottage right at Jane’s feet, the perspective would make it look more like a child’s play house rather than an actual place for her to call home. Once the mask was removed, I could then use my Copic markers to to draw in a meandering path from the front door to Jane at the front of the card, reinforcing the sense of distance that I wanted to create between her and the cottage. The color palette is soft and rather muted as I was going for the look of a grey, drizzly day with the potential for rain. The end result is a charming scene worthy of one of Jane Austen’s novels. 😉
Stay crafty my friends!
