Stamping Bella Marker Geek Monday: Littles Frankie, Witchy & Mummy Colouring Video & Tips

Colouring The Littles & Little Bits

The LITTLES and LITTLE BITS stamps and stamp sets all have far simpler character designs than the usual Stamping Bella ranges. While I love the detail in the other collections like the Uptown Girls and Tiny Townies, it is great to have some images that have less tiny details, for a couple of reasons.

  1. They present a great opportunity to practice colouring – blending and shading in particular.
  2. Adding your own details and little touches can be great fun!

Check out my previous Marker Geek Monday post – Marker Geek Monday Copic & White Gel Pen Detail on a Sweet Baby Card – for some tips on using white gel pen to add details. Our little witchy here could be wearing a spotty hat, or dress, you could add a spider hanging from the tip of her hat etc. You don’t have to stick to white of course, coloured gel pens and metallic pens could also be used to create some fun extra details.

When colouring, whatever medium you are using, you can get in some great practice for creating form using shading, without having a lot of tiny details to work around, and the images are small enough that you can keep those practice sessions short and sweet! If you follow me over on Instagram you will have seen that I’ve been having some quick, fun, colouring sessions for Kathy Racoosin’s 30 Day Colouring Challenge using these stamps and my coloured pencils.

The stamp I’m showing off in today’s post is LITTLES – FRANKIE, WITCHY & MUMMY (coordinating die also available) – this one comes as a single stamp, stamping the spooky trio as one adorable line up. If you want to see how all the different Halloween Littles & Little Bits compare and work together, check out my recent post – Stamp It Saturday: Fall 2017 Littles & Little Bits Comparison – which shows photos of the actual stamps and stamped images side by side.

Reminder about Copic Greys & Colouring Black:

Since we’re looking at one of the Halloween themed stamps (although you know, cute and spooky doesn’t have to be just for Halloween – I’m all about cute witches etc any time of year), I thought this would be a good time to look back at a couple of older posts:

Both posts take a look at the various Copic greys and how they differ, and the second post focuses on colouring black objects.

If you look closely at the little witch in the centre, you will see that I leave lighter edges on areas like the brim of her hat, to help separate it from the main part of the hat and stop it from looking like one flat black shape. With black objects using the highlights to create some contrast is really helpful to keep things from looking too flat and to help the eye make sense of the image!
