Stamp It Saturday: Using our Cut It Out Dies with Elaineabella!

Hey everyone! Elaineabella here with another Stamp It Saturday post, wondering how on earth we ended up in March… This week I’m showing you how to get great results when using the coordinating Cut It Out Dies for your Stamping Bella stamps.

Stamping Bella Cut It Out Dies:

Many of the more recent stamp releases in the Stamping Bella range have coordinating Cut It Out dies available. The stamps and dies are available both separately and as bundles. If you purchase the stamp and die bundles, you save 15%.

I am not a fan of fussy cutting detailed images, so when I do want to cut a stamped image out I love having a way to do so that involves minimal fuss.

Most of the time when using the Cut It Out dies that go with my stamps, I simply eyeball it and line the die up over my stamped image. Most of the time this works just fine, sometimes I end up with a slightly uneven border if I’m hurrying, but usually I don’t have a big problem with that.

If you’d like to ensure a perfect cut every time, there’s a simple way to do that (and this is particularly helpful with some of the dies which have solid portions that you can’t see through).

First, separate the dies. I use the Cut It Out Snippers Tool. Take care when doing this – protect your eyes as small pieces of metal may ping off when cut.

Position the image die on a blank piece of cardstock and run through your die cutting machine using the appropriate cutting sandwich/stack.

Stamp your image on your chosen cardstock.

Take the piece of card you die cut the die shape from and use the negative space to position over your stamped image. Line it up so that there is an even border around the image. When happy, secure with some washi or masking tape so it doesn’t move.

Pop the Cut It Out die into the frame so that it fits perfectly. You may wish to secure this piece also using tape.

Run this through your die cutting machine and you should have a perfect die cut image!

NOTE: I usually do this after colouring, because I like to have a larger piece to work on – I find colouring die cut images a little fiddly trying to hold them steady in place while colouring. Do whatever works for you!

Why are you cutting the image before stamping in?

    • Elaineabella says:

      Hi Karin,

Do you mean before colouring it? I didn’t have time to colour the image and create a card to go with this post, so I demonstrated this technique without having coloured the image. Normally I would colour the image before die-cutting, as I mentioned towards the end of the post, although it would be no real problem to colour the die-cut image.

If you mean why did I cut the shape without stamping first – I cut the first one to create a template to help align the die over my stamped image when die cutting.

  2. This makes perfect since, but I wish we could cut without the white edge More like a fussy cut.

      Hi Beverly,

      Glad it made sense! 🙂

It would be nice, but I think it would be quite hard to achieve with dies. I don’t think I’ve actually seen a coordinating die for a stamp that doesn’t cut a border.

That is one clever tip!!! One that I’ll be able to use with all of my dies. Just had one of those “why didn’t I think of that sooner” moments…
    Thanks for sharing!

This was so helpful, Elaineabella! I was doing something similar, but your method is so much better and worked perfectly when I followed it. Thank you!

Oh I stumbled trick quite by accident a while back!. I used it on a “solid” die. I didn’t want to mess up the image that I had colored and tried to figure out how to get it lined up perfect. Then the light bulb went off….duh, cut it out in scrap card stock and line it up that way. It is a great trick! Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂

Your tips are the best! I learn so much from you every time you post. Thanks!
