Time for a little creative inspiration with me, Elaineabella, for Stamp It Saturday!

Stamping Bella Stamp It Saturday - Stretch Your Stamps by Altering Them

Make Your Stamps Work For You

As I mentioned over the last couple of weeks in my posts – Big Dresses, No Worries! and Big Dresses, No Worries Take Two! – I adore the recently released Uptown Zodiac Girl collection.

Capricorn is one of my favourites. She’s so much fun to colour, with so many possibilities. She’s a really beautiful image, and if you look past the horns, could be used for so many occasions. All you have to do is make a small tweak and lose the horns, which is really easy to do.

Capricorn Copic Colouring Video:

You can watch me colouring Capricorn as she comes in my video below or in HD over on YouTube.

Altering Capricorn:

Now I’ll show you how I altered Capricorn by doing a little horn surgery! It really is quite simple, and totally effective. If I can do it, you can do it. Taurus’ horns would also be really easy to remove. Aries might be more of a challenge, but it’s still possible!

Ink up the stamp with your chosen ink, and BEFORE stamping wipe away the ink on her horns. You can use your finger or a piece of paper towel, I used a cotton bud as it is quite a small area and I wanted to get rid of all of the horn lines. This will leave you with two gaps in the lines for Capricorn’s hair.

Grab a fine liner – I use Copic Multi Liners as they are Copic-friendly and won’t smear when I colour with my markers. I used the 0.05 size to try and match the images line width as well as possible. Don’t stress if your lines aren’t quite perfect, if you colour the hair in dark tones this won’t be noticeable in the end!

Next I masked and inked a background for her using Distress Oxide ink. As you can see my mask pulled up on her arm and she ended up with a speckled pink arm.

Rather than start over, I grabbed my Tombow Mono Sand & Rubber eraser, using it lightly on that area to move some of the ink. I did this lightly and carefully, as using this does damage the surface of the paper.

When colouring with Copics, this covered over the mistake pretty well! Remember – there’s usually a way to fix or cover a problem.

Here’s the final result!

Lovely and an easy solution for using a beautiful stamp withoutthe zodiac references. Your dresses have been just gorgeous!

Oh this is beautiful! I did alter a stamp once. It really wasn’t that hard. I turned The Squidgy on a Journey from a little girl to a little boy. It really wasn’t that hard. I also altered Wedding Cake Chicks to use for a birthday card. Thanks for sharing how you altered your stamp! 🙂
