Marker Geek Monday: Fun Backgrounds with Copic Colourless Blender & Stencils

Elaineabella here with some Marker Geek Monday colouring fun – the perfect way to start the week! This week I’m back to my trusty Copics…

Stencils & Copic Colourless Blender

As much as I love patterned papers, I gave up on hoarding and using them (for the most part) a couple of years ago. I much prefer creating my own backgrounds to coordinate with my projects. Using stencils and Colourless Blender Solution is a great way to do this.

Here are two ways to achieve the look:

Copic Colourless Blender Marker & Stencils

An easy and low mess way to do this is simply to use the 0 Copic Colourless Blender marker to colour through the design in your stencil.

Grab a stencil (mine is a really old Prima Marketing Inc one, designed by Finnabair), a Copic Marker in your chosen colour and your Colourless Blender marker.

Cover your cardstock using your chosen marker. I have used a Copic Wide Marker here because I happen to have some. You don’t have to use a Wide marker, you can go ahead and use your normal Sketch/Ciao or Classic. This is where the chisel nib comes in handy though, for covering a larger area more efficiently!

Position your stencil and fix lightly with some masking tape. I positioned the tape to hold the paper in position and hold the stencil in position at the same time.

Take your Colourless Blender marker and apply through the design in the stencil. You may want to go over each area more than once, depending on how bold or subtle you would like the final effect to be.

Pretty isn’t it?

This approach is faster, but a little messier and if you are sensitive to the alcohol odour, you may want to do it in a well ventilated area.

Fill a Mini Mister spray bottle with Colourless Blender Solution from a refill bottle. You could also use Isopropyl Alcohol for this if you have some on hand – it’s cheaper!

Position your stencil and mist the Colourless Blender solution over it! Don’t overdo it – better to lightly mist, leave it for thirty seconds to evaporate and then mist again. You can always carefully lift a corner of the stencil to check you are getting the desired effect – just be careful not to shift it!

I love creating backgrounds this way, so much fun! If you don’t have Copic Markers, you could create a similar look using Distress Inks and water.
