It’s Monday again, but that’s okay, because it’s also Marker Geek Monday! Today I’ve got a quick post for you highlighting one of great things about Copic markers (and other alcohol based markers too, really).
When colouring the last release, I found myself changing my mind a few times while colouring some of the images. One of the cool things about Copic markers is that for the most part it is relatively simple to go back and make changes.

When colouring this image I gave the Squidgy girl black shoes, then decided that they were a little distracting since I hadn’t used black anywhere else on the image. To help remedy this, I went back over the teddy bear’s nose with dark grey and black markers, covering the brown I had originally used, then used the colourless blender to create a brighter highlight.

As you can see in the video above, I left the middle girl’s dress until the end at which point I decided I wanted a brighter yellow than the one I had initially chosen for the eggs. When I coloured the dress the eggs ended up looking way too dull in comparison, so I went back over them with the brighter yellow to help them work with the colour of the dress.
The lesson? If you’re working with Copics and decide you don’t quite like the colour choices you’ve made, it is worth trying to “fix” things rather than just ditching all your work and starting from scratch. In fact, this goes for most mediums. Work with your mistakes and see what you can learn – you might discover a colour combo you wouldn’t previously have tried, or a property of the medium that you hadn’t considered previously.
