Santa is stuck! Oh my. Poor Santa. Or even worse, poor ME! What if he ate too many cookies and can’t make it down my chimney? Gasp! In today’s video, I’ll be sharing a little airbrushed background to add behind the scene….unfortunately it’s not a solution to helping him deliver gifts, but we gotta work with what we have, right? Could anyone with advanced coloring skills answer this; how do you choose what colors to use to make something look “white”? Is it a matter of personal preference, or does the background and lighting play into what you should use? The BV’s were perfect for his beard in this one, but would grays, or blues work just as well? Thanks for any advice.

I’ll actually be covering this in a Marker Geek Monday post soon! 🙂 On a simple level I’d say for card-making – use what you have available, or what you like best. The recipient is highly unlikely to be critiquing in any great depth regarding your colour choices. You are the one colouring – do what looks good to you!
Greys would work, definitely. And you could choose to use Warm Greys, Cool Greys, Toner Greys or Neutral Greys. 😉 I gave a basic overview of the different Copic Greys in a Marker Geek Monday post earlier in the year: http://bit.ly/29AUVx4
You can get as complicated as you like with this, in terms of taking cues from your background and lighting. For example: if you have a scene with some warm lighting close to Santa, like a roaring fire, you might use some yellow in the highlight areas of the beard to represent reflected light, and you may want to use the Toner or Warm Greys to create the shadows. If you have a very dark background, you may want to go darker with the shadows in the beard than you would if you have a light background.

I have this stamp and I just colored it! It looked kind of white/gray in the picture on the stamp package so that’s how I colored it. You know, a chimney is full of soot from the fires in the fire place so Santa would get his beard kind of dirty from that. That’s what I based it on. I have a white chalk pencil so I used that. I love that pencil and my sister got me more last year for Christmas. Now I will never run out! LOL
I love the background on this card above. I didn’t make a background and now I am thinking that maybe I should! Maybe I can even put stars in the sky! Now I am really thinking. You will be the first to see it when I am done with it. Thanks for the background idea!
Another wonderful job of coloring. This is a really cute stamp and you make it look so good. The background is just awesome!
